The work after training determines whether knowledge becomes capability.<\/p>\n<details class=\"cbr-toc\"><summary>In this article<\/summary><nav aria-label=\"Article contents\"><a href=\"#training-outcome\">Define the workplace outcome before the course<\/a><a href=\"#training-practice\">Create an early opportunity to practise<\/a><a href=\"#training-support\">Make the manager part of transfer<\/a><a href=\"#training-evidence\">Look for evidence in the work<\/a><a href=\"#training-review\">Review, reinforce and adapt<\/a><\/nav><\/details>\n<h2 id=\"training-outcome\">Define the workplace outcome before the course<\/h2>\n<p>Replace broad aims such as \u201cimprove communication\u201d with an observable task. The learner might need to lead a difficult conversation, produce a clearer report or use a new system without supervision.<\/p><p>A specific outcome helps the learner choose relevant examples and gives the manager something meaningful to review.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"training-practice\">Create an early opportunity to practise<\/h2>\n<p>Plan a real task within days of the learning, while the structure is still familiar. Start with an appropriately low-risk situation and provide the time, access and authority needed to complete it.<\/p><aside class=\"cbr-note\"><strong>Application is part of the programme<\/strong>The course is not complete when the session ends. It is complete when the learner can use the skill in context.<\/aside>\n<h2 id=\"training-support\">Make the manager part of transfer<\/h2>\n<p>Before training, the manager should understand the goal and remove obvious barriers. Afterwards, a short conversation can identify what the learner will try, what support is needed and when progress will be reviewed.<\/p><p>Observation, coaching and access to an experienced colleague often matter more than another set of slides.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"training-evidence\">Look for evidence in the work<\/h2>\n<p>Attendance and satisfaction show that someone completed a course and had an experience. They do not demonstrate changed capability.<\/p><p>Use a small number of relevant indicators: the quality of a completed task, fewer corrections, greater independence, customer feedback or the learner\u2019s explanation of a decision. Avoid pretending that every benefit can be reduced to one number.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"training-review\">Review, reinforce and adapt<\/h2>\n<ul><li>What has the learner used?<\/li><li>Where did the skill break down?<\/li><li>Which process or tool made application harder?<\/li><li>What should be practised next?<\/li><li>What could the learner now teach someone else?<\/li><\/ul><p>A short review after two weeks and again after several weeks keeps the learning visible.
